Virgin Mobile launches leftie phone

Lefties all over Britain may rejoice: Virgin Mobile and Sony Ericsson unveil the LH-Z200, a version of the Sony Ericson Z200 with an inverted keypad for left-handed users.


Virgin Mobile has unveiled a new mobile phone specifically designed for left-handed people. Available, exclusively from Virgin Mobile, the new Sony Ericsson LH-Z200 has a unique keypad layout with the number keys positioned from right to left, instead of the standard left to right.



In Britain today twelve per cent of the population is left-handed which equates to a massive seven million people who are frustrated by the right-handed bias in the product design of phones. The change in design aims to make dialling, texting and menu navigation quicker and easier for anyone left-handed. Famous left-handers include Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman, Prince William, glamour model Melinda Messenger and former Sex Pistols front man and 'I'm a Celebrity' contestant John `Rotten' Lydon.

Steven Day, the left-handed Corporate Affairs Director at Virgin Mobile, said: "We have been approached by thousands of left-handed customers who told us they wanted a phone which would work for them. Britain's seven million left-handed people should not be ignored and Virgin Mobile is the first mobile company in the world to offer a solution to this problem working in partnership with Sony Ericsson. We are confident there will be huge interest in this product."

In addition to the redesigned keypad the new Sony Ericsson LH-Z200 boasts all the features of the right-handed variant with its flip design and integrated aerial, colour screen, polyphonic ringtones and a built-in modem.

Virgin Mobile and Sony Ericsson plan to produce a range of left-handed phones and their soon to launch 3G phones will also have left-hand friendly keypads.

The Virgin Mobile Sony Ericsson LH-Z200 will be available in early April, at a retail price of £119.99 GBP.

On sent déjà l'arnaque marketing: faire croire aux gauchers qu'ils ont besoin d'un téléphone spécial pour être à l'aise.

Ca fait 6-7 ans que les gens utilisent des portables régulièrement donc à mon avis les gauchers ont bien eu le temps de s'y habituer et ils préfereront utiliser leur ancien clavier plutôt que de changer pour un portable dont ils auront du mal à s'habituer.

Sans parler que je ne vois pas du tout la gêne que ca provoque chez un gaucher, ma soeur qui est gauchère arrive très bien à écrire des sms, elle n'est pas "handicapée" par rapport aux autres, contrairement à ce que voudrait faire croire Virgin Mobile. De plus, je m'apercois que j'utilise mon phone aussi bien de la main droite que de la main gauche, cela dépend d'où il est par rapport à moi.

Non, franchement, ne tombons pas dans ce piège commercial c'est une innovation complètement ridicule et inutile, le mec qui a fait ce truc a vu qu'il y avait 12% de gauchers et s'est dit qu'il pourrait arriver à leur faire croire qu'il leur fallait un nouveau tel. Ne cherchons pas de problème là ou il n'y en a pas.

P.S: On a pas fait écrire aux gauchers de droite à gauche alors que ca aurait été mieux pour eux alors...
