After many leaked reports the Treo 700wx is finally available on the Sprint Network. The EV-DO smartphone is powered by an Intel XScale processor at 312 MHz and runs on Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition. You get a 1.3 Megapixel camera with video recording however a 2.0 Megapixel camera would be great. The 700wx has 128MB of memory and 60MB of dedicated user storage and SD / MMC expansion slot. Compared to its predecessor the Treo 700w it only has extra RAM. The Treo 700wx has a SV-DO capable wireless data connection for broadband like download data speeds averaging up to 400-700 kbps on the Sprint Power Vision Network. It also incorporates built-in dial-up networking (DUN) capabilities via a USB connection on Windows. The Palm Treo 700wx is available for $499.99 after available discounts and promotions.

Rumeur jusque là, même si de nombreuses preuves de son existence laissaient à penser que la rumeur était vraie, le lancement du Palm Treo 700w sous système Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 est enfin officiel.

L'appareil décliné pour le moment en 2 versions, Palm® Treo™ 700wx pour l'opérateur américain Sprint & 700w pour l'opérateur Verizon, n'est certainement pas une révolution au niveau technique mais reste sans aucun doute une petite révolution au niveau marketing en étant le second appareil Palm à fonctionner avec un système Microsoft.

Malheureusement si cet appareil est officiellement lancé sur le territoire américain, il ne devrait pas sortir de celui ci ce qui nous semble dommage car il aurait certainement été intéressant de convertir des anciens "Palmistes" ailleurs que sur le sol américain.

Alors que les utilisateurs du Treo 680 sous Palm OS pouvaient initialiser le mode stéreo bluetooth A2DP sur leurs appareils grâce à l'application, Softick Audio Gateway, rien n'existait pour le Treo 700 sous Windows Mobile.

Un utilisateur du forum TreoCentral a trouvé un hack qui permet d'apporter le support A2DP au Treo 700w. Une fois installé, vous pourrez écouter de la musique via une paire d'écouteurs stéréos Bluetooth. Le Treo 750 supporte déja le profil Bluetooth A2DP.
